Pilates, anyone?

I’m about to put on some vaguely sporty outfit so I can attend my first ever Pilates class.  It’s supposed to be good for bad backs, and I really hope it is ’cause I’ve barely been able to stand upright today. Wish me luck…

Learning to love my level crossing

My two parishes are separated by the main East Coast rail line, so I spend a lot of time waiting there. I’m trying to teach myself not to experience this as time wasted, but as a gift; any suggestions?

What does your screensaver say about you?

I use one of the scrolling text screensavers on my laptop.  I used to change the wording to tally with the time of the church year (yes, I know that’s a bit sad), so at Christmas it would have a quotation from a carol, around Easter it would say ‘Christ is risen’ and so on.  A few weeks ago, sometime in March, I think, I realised it still had the Advent wording(!) so I knew that the time had come to give up on being seasonal.  I suppose it was a response to the sheer amount of work I’m supposed to be able to get through that I finally decided on a permanent wording that would be appropriate no matter what the time of year.  Now, whenever I haven’t done anything for 5 minutes, the scrolling text tells me “JUST GET ON WITH IT”.  I hate it, but I know if I change it that will only serve to prove that the accusation that I may procrastinate (just a little bit) was entirely justifed….  Anyway, now if I want to procrastinate I can check twitter or post something to my blog!

Faye Hart (soprano) is doing a concert at my church…

Faye_005

We have this concert series every summer in my church (www.a1churchbuckden.wordpress.com) with a whole variety of different performers. The concert on 11th June looks interesting, and perfect for a summer’s evening.  It’s a recital by the soprano Faye Hart, so if you’re in the Huntingdon / St Neots area, come along to a beautiful church to hear some beautiful singing.  The concert is in St Mary’s, Buckden, at starts at 7.30pm.

Not sure whether it’s your thing?  Faye’s biography (below) gives an idea of the variety of music in her repertoire.

Faye Hart’s biography

Faye Hart trained at the Royal Northern College of Music as a coloratura soprano, relishing any opportunity to display her vocal height and agility through tackling a variety of characters  ‘The Queen of the Night’ – The Magic Flute and ‘Lucia’ – Lucia di Lammermoor.  During her time at college, Faye also won a prestigious Peter Moore’s scholarship.  Soon after Faye graduated from RNCM with a Professional Performance Diploma in Opera, she was invited to sing in numerous galas, festivals, oratorios and concerts in between operatic engagements.  With a rising reputation Faye successfully secured a chorus position with English National Opera; while with

ENO Faye’s local highlights included: performing as the soprano soloist with the English Sinfonia for the Bedford Proms in the Park; singing for Dame Norma Major at a celebrity charity gala; and, providing the entertainment for one of John Major’s conservative party dinners.  Faye was fortunate enough to sing with ENO at its grand re-opening when she particularly enjoyed performing The Pirates of Penzance on The Royal Variety Show hosted at the Coliseum.

Faye has sung soprano solo in much of the oratorio repertoire, most recently: Mozart’s mass in C minor, Exsultate Jubilate, Brahm’s Requiem, and Carmina Burana.  Faye also enjoys performing recitals and concerts whilst she also teaches singing at Kimbolton School.

Yay! New phone!

Really hoping i’ve set this up right… Had a great time today with the children at Hamerton Zoo. Didn’t have phone then, so pictures of baby lemurs will have to wait til I’ve downloaded them from my camera… Very cool though being able to blog and tweet at the same time from a phone. ‘Tis a brave new world.
